In an incident which highlights the poor condition of public transport in tech hub Bengaluru, a 56-year-old woman was burnt to death after a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus caught fire in Nelamangala on Tuesday morning.

The ‘fiery’ incident left nine persons, including two children, grievously injured.

According to sources, the bus which mostly commutes between Sringeri and Bengaluru caught fire when it reached Nelamangala around 12:30 pm.

The victim who succumbed to burns was later identified as Bagyamma. The other three passengers who sustained over 50% o burns are undergoing a treatment while the other injured in the incident have been shifted to Victoria Hospital for further care.

Commenting on the matter, a KSRTC official said, “It is not an air-conditioned bus but an ordinary ‘sarige’ bus. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.”

A case has been registered by the police officials and investigation is underway to assert the reason behind the fire.
