After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘kabristan-shamshaan’ remark during a rally in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, a fresh controversy was stirred on Tuesday after BJP leader Sakshi Maharaj said that dead should be cremated and not buried.

Sakshi Maharaj stated that dead should be cremated, irrespective of the religion of a person.

While speaking to a news agency, Maharaj said, “Chaahe naam kabristan ho, chaahe shamshan ho, daah hona chahiye, kisi ko gaadne ki aveshyakta nahin hai”.

The BJP leader further added that there are 2 to 2.5 crore priests and if you make a samadhi for each one, how much space will it take?

Previously, while addressing a rally in UP on 19 February, PM Modi had said, “Gaon me kabristan banta hai to shamshaan bhi banna chahiye; Ramzan me bijli ati hai to Diwali me bhi ani chahiye; bhedbhav nhi hona chahiye.”
