A ‘mass prayer’ was in progress in a church in Dathauli, Maharajganj, on Friday which was stopped by the police after members of Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV) accused that the church authorities were carrying out forced conversion of Hindus.

The mass was attended by many US nationals, including women who were apprehended by the police but later they were later let off after police and local intelligence unit teams checked their visas and other relevant documents.

“No prior permission was taken for the assembly which was attended by US nationals. We stopped the prayer meet after HYV workers registered a complaint with us. A probe is under way and appropriate action will be taken if charges are found true,” a police officer told a daily

As per reports, over half a dozen HYV workers led by district coordinator Krishna Nandan surrounded the church building after submitting a complaint with the police on Friday.

HYV workers alleged that that innocent and illiterate Hindus were being converted by Church personnel who offered them money for converting.
