A 23-hour long encounter between militants and Indian security forces in the Pulwama district of Kashmir comes to an end after the third terrorist was neutralised and his body was recovered on Tuesday. The search party has also recovered one AK-47 assault rifle and one INSAS rifle from the place where the body of the slain militant was recovered.
Meanwhile, the security forces have cordoned the area as the search operation is underway.
The encounter started on Monday morning when three terrorists from across the border started firing at the security forces deployed in Kashmir.
Two of the three terrorists were killed yesterday only but the third one was executed earlier this morning and it was confirmed after his body was recovered in Bahmnoo village, Pulwama. It was also reported that one civilian was injured in the cross fire.
The terrorists took refuge in at least four civilian houses and kept changing their positions, making it difficult for the security forces to track them down and hence, the encounter operation continued for so long.
As per sources, the two terrorists neutralised went with alias Kifaayat and Jehangir, while the identity of the third is still unknown.
Reportedly, the militants belong to a group headed by Zakir Musa, a former commander exiled from Hizbul Mujahideen. Musa was banished by the Mujahideen after he started ranting for establishment of Caliphate in Kashmir. The group has been active from the past couple of years.
Apart from tackling the militants, Jammu and Kashmir Police is also invested in containing the law and order situation as the surrounding areas are witnessing intense stone pelting.
