A massive ruckus broke out in J&K Assembly on Tuesday during a special session on Goods and Services Tax (GST), following which the assembly was adjourned till 2:30 pm.
There were utter chaos in the house as soon as the discussion on the extension of GST began as many members of Opposition parties began protesting against the restrictions posed on the media covering the session.
Media persons were not allowed to carry their video or still cameras inside the gates of Civil Secretariat following which many media persons decided to boycott the proceedings.
Sensing trouble, the Directorate of Information issued a modified communique which said ‘ It has now been decided by the authorities concerned that journalists can carry video/still cameras and mobile phones inside the Press Gallery of the Legislature for the coverage of the special session.”
GST was implemented on July 1 across India except the J&K as many Opposition parties in the state are against the implementation of new tax regime in its present form.
