When the times are desperate, people tend to take desperate actions and one such incident has come to light from Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh where people struck with penury have found a ludicrous way to get financial assistance from the government.
Locals from a village are pushing their elderly to the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve where they are ultimately attacked and killed by tigers. The dead bodies are then dragged to the farms and the matter is reported to the government authorities as a tiger attack in the farm.
Upon the successful execution of the setup, the kin of the deceased receive lakhs of rupees in compensation. Around 7 attacks were reported from the surrounding areas and, unsurprisingly, the victim in each case was an elderly.
It should be noted that there is no compensation by the government if anyone dies in the tiger reserve.
The matter was investigated by a Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) official and upon the discovery of this bizarre plan, he has submitted his reports to the top authorities.
As per the consensus conducted by government of India, 45.23% of the total population in Pilibhit lives below the poverty line and it lies in the bottom three of the hygiene and sanitation list of the country’s cities.
