Prime Minister Narendra Modi has adopted another village in his Lok Sabha constituency of Varanasi under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAJY).

The village named Kakrahia is known for its wrestlers and wrestling arenas and has a population of around 2,000 people mostly belonging to backward class.

The announcement was made by UP CM Yogi Adityanath who paid a visit to the village on Sunday and congratulated the locals. He also distributed five solar-operated charkhas (spinning wheels) to women and school bags and clothes among children.

“We are quite happy as chief minister Yogi visited our village to give us the great news,” a delighted villager said after the announcement.

This is the third village to be adopted by PM Modi. He had earlier adopted Jayapur and Nagepur villages of Varanasi as well.

Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana was launched for developing model villages through implementation of existing schemes and certain new initiatives.
