The government of India has time and again reiterated that it’s crucial to link Aadaar with PAN for filing Income Tax (IT) returns. The deadline of linking 12-digit biometric-based identity i.e. Aadhaar to PAN is set at December 31, 2017 and failure to do so will result in annulment of bank accounts.
Earlier in June, the Centre issued a notice making Aadhaar Card necessary to open bank accounts and to perform any transactions of Rs 50,000 or above with the bank.
There are two ways to carry out the linking process and here we break it down to get you going without hassle:
Step 1: Visit the official website www.incometaxIndiaefiling.gov.in
Step 2: Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option on the left
Step 3: Enter the PAN and Aadhaar number, along with your name imprinted on the cards.
Step 4: Press ENTER or click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ button
Step 5: A One Time Password (OTP) will be generated on the registered mobile number of the user. Enter the OTP and you are all set.
Step 1: Type UIDPAN <12-digit-Aadhaar-number> <10-digit-PAN-number>
Example: UIDPAN 987654321012 ABCDE1234F
Step 2: Send it to 567678 or 56161
