Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s bodyguard have reportedly assaulted media personnel over questions on corruption. The incident happened at the Bihar Secretariat in Patna when Lalu Prasad and his son Tejashwi Yadav were coming out of a cabinet meeting and media was trying to get a reaction from the cabinet ministers.

In a video accessed by NewsX, Lalu’s security guards are seen pushing the media away and physically assaulting them at the RJD chief’s press conference.  The video also shows Tejashwi and Lalu standing there and the bodyguards beating the media personnel.

When contacted, the RJD spokesperson Manoj Jha in his party’s defence said, “I understand there is pressure on media to produce news 24*7 but you can’t make news even when there is no news.”

He even tried to shush the reporters and said that this was a conspiracy by the BJP government to break the alliance between the RJD and Janata Dal United (JDU).

So far no reaction has come from the RJD chief or the Bihar deputy chief minister on the attack on media personnel.

The CBI on July 10 carried out raids at 12 places in Patna, Delhi, Ranchi, Puri and Gurugram in connection with the case involving Lalu Prasad and his family members.

The CBI has registered the case against Lalu Prasad, his wife and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav, former Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Managing Director PK Goyal, and Lalu Prasad’s confidante Prem Chand Gupta’s wife Sujata on allegations of awarding the tender for development, maintenance and operation of hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006.

In the same year, the hotels were transferred to the IRCTC. Lalu Prasad was the Railways Minister between 2004-09.

At a time when Lalu and his family are in trouble over the CBI raids, Nitish Kumar has been maintaining studious silence instead of supporting the Yadav family like the other ally Congress, a RJD leader said.
