Shankar Naik, a legislator of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has landed in a controversy for allegedly misbehaving with district collector Preeti Meena during a tree plantation programme in the district.
According to reports, the MLA gripped collector’s arm while planting saplings. The collector was left in shock and raised an objection, but the MLA continued misbehaving. Later, Meena informed chief secretary SP Singh and IAS Officers’ Association about the episode.
Rao has however denied the allegations and clarified that he did not touch Meena intentionally
Meanwhile, the MLA’s behaviour has drawn the wrath of government employees who have threatened to go on strike in case strong action is not taken against the offender.
The episode has also irked Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao who has directed Naik to meet the collector and render an apology. The Chief Minister has also asked deputy chief minister Kadiam Srihari and MP Sitaram Naik to speak to the collector and settle the matter on behalf of the government.
