Coming out as a major development in Amarnath Yatra attack, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has now formed a Special Investigative Team (SIT) to probe into one of the biggest terror attack where 7 pilgrims were brutally killed and at least 19 were left severely injured after a group of terrorists opened fire on the bus carrying pilgrims.

The 6-member SIT will be headed by SP Pani, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) South Kashmir. The other members include Altaf Ahmad (Senior Superintendent of Police Anantnag), 1 Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank officer and other officers to assist the probe.

Earlier on Tuesday, a bus registered with GJ09Z 9976, carrying pilgrims to the Amarnath Yatra was caught in crossfire after militants attacked a Police Nakkah at around 8:20 pm at Batengo, Anantnag.

Soon after the attack, in a statement released IGP Kashmir said that Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was behind the attack. As per reports, the team will probe into the circumstances and linkage between Amarnath Yatra attack and the Achabal attack.
