Opposition parties’ vice presidential candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Sunday said he will file his nomination on July 18.
“I will file my nomination day after tomorrow,” the former West Bengal Governor told media after a meeting of opposition parties addressed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The Opposition’s candidate for President’s post Meira Kumar also attended the meeting.
The election for President’s post will be held on Monday while the new Vice President will be elected on August 5.
Both the elections take place through secret ballot and electors are not bound by any whip.
Meira Kumar and Gopalkrishna Gandhi will be the “best possible President and Vice-President to steer our society through the crisis that has beset our country today”, Sonia Gandhi.
Stressing that parliamentarians must have confidence in the values they believe in, she said: “We must stand more aware than ever of who we are, what we fought for in our Independence struggle and what future we want for ourselves.
