In yet another standoff, four Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday for fishing in their territorial waters. Earlier on July 13, seven fishermen belonging to Pudukkottai district were arrested with two boats.
As per police reports, the Sri Lankan navy arrested the fishermen when they had accidently entered the territorial waters of Sri Lanka.
Further disclosing the matter, the official said that the fishermen arrested belonged to the Jagadapattinam in Pudukottai district. The men were arrested for fishing off in Neduntheevu near the Sri Lankan coast.
Post the arrest, fishermen were shifted to Kangesanthurai by the Lankan naval men along with their boat. The fishermen had ventured into the sea four days back before they were arrested, they added.
Earlier on July 9, three Indian fishermen apprehended by Sri Lankan Navy at Palk Strait and just 4 days later, on July 13, Lankan Navy had arrested seven fishermen from Mandapam.
