With the vice presidential elections round the corner (August 8), the government on Tuesday announced that Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani will be taking an additional charge of Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Taking to the Twitter handle, the government also announced that NS Tomar will be taking up the Urban Development Ministry. The reshuffle came in after the Naidu was picked as the VP candidate for the government.

Eyeing the south, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) named M Venkaih Naidu as their vice presidential candidate against UPA’s Gopal Krishna Gandhi.

Taking to the Twitter handle, PM Modi said, “M. Venkaiah Naidu has resigned from his ministerial responsibilities. The additional charge of the Ministry of I&B has been given to Smriti Irani.”

“Additional charge of Moud_India (Ministry of Urban Development) has been given to Tomar,” he tweeted.


Smriti Irani already heads the Textile Ministry, while Narendra Singh Tomar is in charge of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
