In times when the number of farmers seeking loan waiver from Tamil Nadu do not seem to come down, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday announced almost a 100% salary hike to all politicians. The MLAs who were earlier getting Rs 55,000 will now be taking Rs 1.05 lakhs home.
Tamil Nadu CM Palaniswami also announced that MLA Local Area Development Fund would be increased from Rs 2 crore to 2.5 crore. The announcements were made by the CM in the State Assembly.
Just before Palaniswami announced ‘Achche Din’ for his MLAs, Samajwadi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Naresh Agarwal had put forth the same requirement in the monsoon session today.
“Our salary is lesser than our secretaries,” Naresh Agrawal said.
The echos falling on the same sentiments were also heard from Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma who was also seeking pay raise for his MPs
