Karnataka government on Sunday release a list of 8-page document called the ‘Bengaluru Declaration’ mentioning the measure to improve the condition of scheduled castes and tribes (SCs/STs) and other backward classes (OBCs) in the country.
The document has been compiled after the consultations and recommendations form academicians, activists, policymakers and citizens. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has proposed a separate bank for Dalits and reservations in the private sector in the released document.
This move by the Karnataka government has sparked the fresh controversy as the opposition is saying that Congress is trying to consolidate the support of backward classes ahead of next year’s assembly polls.
The declaration also makes recommendations like upholding the rule of law, reform in political representation, equal opportunities, reservations in procurement of contracts, English medium education, reservation in promotions and minimum wage.
