The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has again found themselves at the docks after an MLA from Punjab was booked for allegedly assaulting a woman. The case has been registered against Amarjit Singh Sandoa who holds MLA seat from Rupnagar.
Commenting on the matter, Senior Superintendent of Police Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu said that following the complaint by a 55-year-old woman, a case was registered against the accused. Amarjit Singh Sandoa has been booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 354 (intent to outrage modesty of woman), 323 (Voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (Criminal intimidation).
However, the MLA Sandoa refuted the claims by the woman and termed it a conspiracy against him.
AAP MLA Sandoa came under the scanner for not paying his dues of the house he had taken from the woman on rent in November 2016. The MLA used the rented house as his election office and had agreed to pay Rs 30,000 per month.
In the complaint filed the woman claimed that Amarjit Singh Sandoa did not pay the rent and also the electricity bill of the house. Sandoa had also caused damage to the house, the woman claimed. The woman said that Sandoa owed her Rs 2.50 lakh.
The woman further added that when she went to his house — on Saturday — to ask for the dues, the MLA thrashed her.
Following the unruly behaviour, the woman claimed that she even approached AAP state unit president Bhagwant Mann and co-president Aman Arora but no one came to her rescue.
However, commenting the allegations, MLA Sandoa said that only electricity bills were pending against him. He said the complainant came yesterday along with a man. He further alleged that it was a political conspiracy against him to stop him from contesting next elections from Rupnagar.
On the other hand commenting on the complaints against the AAP MLA, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said that he should be arrested.
