The Supreme Court on Thursday decided to reject Congress’ plea regarding removal of the NOTA provision from the upcoming August 8 elections to three Rajya Sabha seats from the state of Gujarat.
While delivering their outright rejection SC rapped the Congress party and asked why were they were so late in raising the question of NOTA. The court reminded the party that the election commission’s notification had been issued in the year 2014.
Yesterday it was the BJP party, who echoed Congress’ view and urged the Election Commission (EC) to remove the NOTA provision from the August 8 election to the three Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat.
The BJP demand came a day after the Congress on Tuesday created a ruckus in Parliament over NOTA provision in the Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat.
On Tuesday, a Congress delegation met the poll panel, demanding that NOTA provision should not be put in ballot papers for the August 8 elections, as it would render the system of proportional representation “nugatory and otiose”.
