A day after Congress vice President Rahul Gandhi’s convoy was attacked in Gujarat, the police on Saturday arrested four Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers including a local leader Jayesh Darji.

All the four arrested have been taken into police custody following several protests by Congress workers across Gujarat and in the Capital.

One of the four detained is a local BJP leader Jayesh Darji, reportedly the prime suspect behind the attack. Another suspect Bhagwanbhai Patel, is the chairman of Dhanera Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC).

It is from the APMC market yard in Dhanera that the wave of protests against Rahul Gandhi started.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi who touring the flood hit areas in Gujarat minus the party MLAs as they have been lodged up in a Bengaluru resort; was surrounded by protesters shouting ‘Modi’ slogans when stones were pelted on his car.

Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party for the attack on his convoy in Gujarat, saying that it was “the style of politics pursued by the BJP and RSS”.

“Yesterday (Friday) such a large stone was thrown by the BJP workers. It hit one of my PSOs (Personal Security Officer) and he was hurt. This is the style of politics of Modiji, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh),” Gandhi said outside the Parliament where Vice Presidential election was underway.

Responding to media questions, Rahul Gandhi said that there is no surprise to see that the PM did not condemn the attack as the people behind the attack belong to BJP party.

Condemning the attack, Congress has demanded that PM Modi must apologise for the attack.
