Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday confirmed the detention of three individuals in connection with the attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims.
The three men arrested by J&K Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) have been identified as Aizaj Wagey, Zahoor Ahmed and Bilal Ahmed. The trio provided support and shelter to the four Lashker-e-taiba (LeT) militants in carrying out the attack on a bus of pilgrims returning back from the yatra on July 10, confirmed IGP Munir khan of special cell.
According to the police the trio has revealed all the information about the attack on Amarnath Yatris and the police are confident of neutralising the terrorists very soon. The attack on pilgrims which saw 8 dead and 19 injured was conducted in Botengo area near Khanbal, the site was selected by Wagey, Zaroor and Bilal who were continuously in touch with the LeT militants.
The LeT militants led by Abu Ismail, a suspected Pakistani national, had also tried to execute an attack before on July 9th but were frustrated over the high security arrangements by the Indian security forces.
The arrested men are being interrogated further by the police in a quest to catch the four main accused of the terror attack. Pictures of Abu Ismail, the mastermind behind the attack have been released by the police. Another terrorist from the group of four has been identified by the SIT as Yawar, who is said to be a local recruiter for the LeT.
Abu Ismail is the current commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Kashmir, replacing former commander Abu Dujana. The remaining two terrorists, suspected to be Pakistani nationals are still to be identified.
