Notably, CM Aditynath visited BRD hospital on Wednesday and inaugurated ten-bed ICU, a six-bed Critical Care Unit facility. He also inspected the ward meant for children infected with Japanese Encephalitis.
The development comes after the reports of 30 children dying within 48 hours in BRD hospital, exposed the apathy of the failed medical system in the state.
Even though the government has claimed the loss of lives to only seven, Gorakhpur DM Rajeev Rautela told local TV channels confirming the “death of 30 kids in the last two days.”
Speaking further, DM Rajeev Rautela also denied the reports saying that the children had died due to lack of oxygen.
Rautela also confirmed that the medical college had lack liquid oxygen supply citing non-payment of Rs 70 lakhs. “As far as the complaint regarding non-payment of dues to the company supplying the oxygen is concerned, it is a matter of inquiry. But there was an existing alternative arrangement of 50 oxygen cylinders which was being used, so there was no shortage of oxygen,” he added.
Meanwhile, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party vice president Rahul Gandhi expressed pain over the death of children and asked the take stern action against the mismanagement.
Sonia Gandhi blamed “gross negligence and incorrigible misconduct on the part of the authorities” for the tragic accident.
Rahul Gandhi said the BJP government must punish the guilty. “Deeply pained, my thoughts are with the families of the victims. BJP government is responsible and should punish the negligent who caused this tragedy,” he said.
Senior Congress leaders including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Raj Babbar are scheduled to visit the hospital on Saturday.
