Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh will distribute 10,260 laptops and netbooks among meritorious students of Class X and XII under the Rajiv Gandhi Digital Students Yojna next week, it was announced on Saturday.

The Chief Minister will launch the distribution of laptops at the state-level Independence Day function on August 15 at Rampur town in Shimla district, an education department said.

He said Rs 82 crore have been earmarked to provide 42,971 laptops and netbooks to the students from 2013 to 2018.

Earlier, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had launched six health schemes, including free insulin for diabetic patients below 18 years of age, under the Universal Immunisation Programme.

The Chief Minister, accompanying state Health Minister Kaul Singh, also launched Himachal Pradesh Universal Health Protection Scheme — for the treatment of hemophilic patients free of cost, and introduction of measles rubella campaign.
