A 14-year-old boy from Bengal has become the recent prey of the deadly ‘Blue Whale’ challenge online game. Ankan Dey, class 10th student, committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Anandpur town of West Midnapore district on Saturday.

As per reports it was found that Dey covered his head with a poly bag and tied it tightly around his neck with a nylon cord, choking himself to death.

While talking to a daily, Ankan’s father said that after returning from school he sat in front of the computer, when he was called for lunch he said that he would first take a bath. When he did not come out from the bathroom for over an hour, we broke the door and found him lying motionless on floor, Ankan’s father added.

During initial investigation by the police it was found that the Ankan was hooked to the ‘Blue Whale’ challenge and was last seen playing it on his computer before he committed suicide.

Commenting on the matter a senior police official said, “Initial evidence suggests it the suicide is linked to the Blue Whale Challenge. We are investigating the matter.”

This is the second case of a suicide linked to the Blue Whale challenge in the country. Previously, a 14-year-old from Mumbai, Manpreet Sahas, ended his life by jumping off a building.

Blue Whale Challenge is a notorious internet game, originated from Russia, and has claimed around 150 lives in Europe and Russia. More than 130 kids around the world have fallen prey to the online game.
