Taking a stern measure against the deadly online game, Blue whale Challenge, the Government on Tuesday directed all the social media giants — Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Microsoft and Yahoo — to immediately remove all the links relating to the game which has claimed around two lives in the country.

In a directive being issued to all the majors, Ministry of Electronics and IT said, “Instances of children committing suicide while ‘Blue Whale challenge’ have been reported in India, you are hereby requested to ensure that any such link of this deadly game in its own name or similar game is immediately removed from your platform.”

Earlier, taking the cognizance of the recent death of a class 10 student, suspected to be latest fatality from ‘Blue Whale Challenge’, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi wrote to Home Ministry as well as to IT ministers urging removal of the online suicide game from social media.

On August 14, a series of tweets were put out by Ministry of Child and Development stating that Maneka Gandhi has taken up the matter with Home Minister Rajnath Singh and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The deadly online ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ game, which has claimed over 100 lives, is a 50-day challenge which demands that players complete tasks given to them by an anonymous controller.
