A newly installed statue of Indian revolutionary Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in West Bengal’s Birbhum district was found defaced with in on Independence day.

The bust was installed on Monday at the panchayat office in Panchra. On Tuesday, it was discovered with ink smeared on it. We are investigating the matter,” N. Sudheer Kumar, Superintendent of Police told the media.

The shameful incident comes days ahead of August 18, the date on which Netaji allegedly died in an air crash in Formosa in 1945.

In a recent develpoment, 2 people named Maida Bauri and Vinod Dashave been arrested by Birbhum police in relation with the incident and the interrogation is going on.

The white bust,which is placed atop an Indian Tricolour-hued platform was to be unveiled on the morning of Independence Day.

Thes staff members of the Panchayat Office on tuesday morning discovered that the statue had been smeared with tar and the nose had been broken.
