A day after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami made the announcement of transforming J Jayalalithaa’s residence into a memorial, a hand-written will by Jayalalithaa’s mother Sandhya was released on Friday.
The will written by Sandhya was done on a day before her death and dates back to December 12, 1973. It says Jayalalithaa inherited Poes Garden from her mother.
In her will, Sandhya talks about Nartiya Kala Niketan and lists out all the property including her house in T Nagar and Hyderabad.
She says she is in NG Hospital but in a sound state of mind. She mentions separate properties for son Jayakumar and daughter Kumari Jayalalithaa.
“My son Jayakumar shall enjoy house and ground on Sivagnanam Street in T Nagar without power of alienation after his lifetime. His children can take the property in absolutely equal share,” says Sandhya.
In the event of leaving no issues, the set property will be taken over by my daughter Jaya and her heirs and rest of the items shall be taken by him entirely.
The will further says that Kumari Jayalalithaa be instructed to live in Sivagnanam Street as long as she likes or until she decides to shift to her own house.
Here is the list of properties:
- Bungalow and ground in Sivaagnanam Street, T Nagar
- Agricultural land in Kolathuvancheri
- Garden land with the house in village of Karapakkam
- House site in Hyderabad
- Cash in Syndicate Bank
- Personal jewels
After Palaniswami announced that Poes Garden will be turned into a memorial, Deepa Jayakumar, the niece of Jayalalithaa, challenged CM’s decision.
In a press conference on Thursday, Deepa said, that the government had no right to make these kind of declaration without the consent of her and her brother.
“They have no right to announce this without consulting legal heirs that is me and my brother. I have moral, ethical and legal right over this house,” Deepa Jayakumar said.
