Massive clashes erupted on Wednesday inside Boys Degree College Khanabal in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after police hoist Indian flag during a sports event in college campus.

According to reports, students became furious after the Indian flag was hoisted inside the campus. They objected the move, protested in hundreds and soon the situation became uncontrollable.

Students ransacked the infrastructure and set ablaze a tent and some official chairs. They also pelted stones at police, triggering clashes between students and security forces.

Several teargas canisters were fired to disperse the protesting students.

“Soon the protesting students raising slogans sabotaged the event and set the hoards and other things around ablaze,” witnesses told Kashmir Monitor adding a part of podium was also set on fire.

The event was organised by Jammu and Kashmir police.
