Launching an attack on BJP-led NDA govt, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said journalists are not safe under current regime.
Yadav also took a dig at PM Narendra Modi while addressing a public meeting in Kushinagar.
“While govt talks about Digital India, journalists are killed if they write anything against it. Woman journalist Gauri Lankesh who wrote against BJP was killed in Bengaluru,” he said.
Yadav’s remarks came amidst huge oproar over 55-year-0ld journalist Gauri Lankesh‘s murder at her home in Bengaluru. Lankesh, a vocal critic of Hindutva politics was considered to be an anti-establishment voice with strident anti-right wing views.
Yadav added that Samajwadi Party was open to alliance with other parties to defeat BJP in Lok Sabha by-election. The polls will be held in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha constituencies since Gorakhpur MP and CM Yogi Adityanath and Phulpur MP and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya have been elected to the UP Assembly.
