Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and Amarnath terror attack mastermind Abu Ismail and his aide were killed by security forces in Aribagh area of Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar on Thursday.

As per an official, the encounter took place after security forces cordoned off the area following intel inputs.

Confirming the news, J&K, DGP SP Vaid said, “Two terrorists including Abu Ismail have been killed; we are identifying the other.”

IGP Kashmir, Munir Khan also congratulated the security forces for success after the encounter.

” It hardly took half an hour to complete operation. He was one of our prime targets,” he said.

Khan added that it is important to eliminate militant leadership in the Valley.

“Militant leadership has to be eliminated because they also misguide our children and lure them into this,” Khan said.

Ismail had masterminded the attack on Amarnath pilgrims in July killing eight people. He has also been involved in many other militant attacks in J&K.

Abu Ismail had replaced Abu Dujana as Lashkar’s Kashmir commander after Dujana’s killing by armed forces in Pulwama district in August.

Ismail is the fourth top terrorist killed in Kashmir since last year. Burhan Wani, Sabzar Bhat and Abu Dujana were neutralised by security forces earlier.

Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been blocked in Srinagar in order to prevent any violent outbreak in view of Ismail’s killing.
