Rahul Gandhi may take over as the Congress party chief as early as next month (October), says senior party leader and former union minister Veerappa Moily. The Congress leader said that Rahul Gandhi, who currently holds the vice-president post, could emerge as Congress president soon.
Speaking on Rahul Gandhi to be elevated as the party president, Veerappa Moily said that this can happen but only through an internal poll.
Further sharing his views on making Rahul Gandhi as Congress president, Moily said that this could be a game changer. This will be good for both the party and the country.
Veerappa Moily also mentioned that other leaders in the party also share the feeling that his (Rahul Gandhi) elevation as party president has been delayed.
Discussions on Rahul Gandhi to be elevated as Congress president has always been there but in the past couple of weeks, possibilities of him becoming the president have picked up the pace.
A couple of days ago, Rahul Gandhi, during his Berkeley address, declared that he is “absolutely ready” to be the party’s prime ministerial candidate for the 2019 general elections.
However, he made it clear that the decision has to be finally approved by the party. Often under attack from the BJP, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party President Amit Shah, over dynasty politics, Gandhi said it “is a problem in all political parties in India” but that was how “most of the country runs like”.
