Pakistan Rangers resorted to heavy mortar shelling on Saturday evening across the international border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu district and Indian forces retaliated, triggering heavy exchange of fire in the area, police said.
Police sources said here Pakistan Rangers started heavy shelling in Arnia sub-sector of R.S.Pura at 9.30 p.m. using 81 mm mortars and Indian positions were “effectively retaliating”.
“Heavy firing exchanges are going on in the area,” a source said.
According to reports, at least one civilian is reportedly dead and 6 others have been injured in the ceasefire violation.

This was third violation by Pakistani forces in the Arnia sector in 2 days, earlier on Saturday morning the Indian Army strongly retaliated to the ceasefire violation.
Earlier Pakistan resorted to firing in Arnia sub-sector using mortars, automatics and small arms. They targeted Sai, Treva and Jabowal forward posts of the Border Security Force (BSF).
At least two terrorists were neutralised after an infiltration bid that was foiled in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)’s Kupwara district on Saturday by the Indian Army early morning on Saturday.
