Speed thrill proved fatal for 17-year-old Arfhan Salim, who was driving a Skoda on Hosur Road Elevated Expressway in Bengaluru. He was driving his car at 3AM at a speed of 150 km per hour on Monday. The Skoda crashed into a road median before hitting two other cars that were being driven by his classmates. One of the deceased’s classmates was driving an Innova and the other one was driving a Maruti Suzuki sedan.
The accident took place while the trio was involved in a drag race. The deceased was beheaded as his sedan grazed against a row of barricades placed in the median of the road and his head hit them. According to the police, the victim driving the Skoda was not wearing a seat belt which was also the major reason his death.
The victims’s friends Anirudh K, also from HSR Layout, and Srinvas G, from Devarachikkanhalli, both 16 years old survived miraculously without injuries.
All the three teenagers are residents of HSR Layout.
Bengaluru city police said the three boys took the cars out around midnight when their parents were asleep. Police filed a case against the boys, who drove the cars, and their fathers for allowing minors to drive their vehicles.
While the boys were booked for causing death due to negligence, racing and rash and negligent driving, their fathers were booked for allowing unauthorised persons to drive vehicles. The deceased is a son of a businessman and the other two survivors of the accident are sons of software engineers.
