Underworld don and India’s most wanted Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar, who is currently in under police custody in Maharashtra, may soon be probed by Enforcement Directorate for financial links. Kaskar is being questioned after he recently confirmed that Dawood was in Pakistan during interrogation by the Thane police and Intelligence Bureau. 

The enforcement directorate may initiate a probe after several illegal transactions had came to light like Hawala and benami properties. 

According to reports, it is also believed Dawood received money from India through hawala. Details of several angadia (hawaladars within India) and hawala operators obtained indicate that money from India to Pakistan was sent to Dawood Ibrahim.

Further briefing what Iqbal Kaskar revealed, police officers investigating the case said that he has provided some vital information related to Dawood and his whereabouts which will help in building a strong case.

During interrogation by the police, Kaskar had revealed that his brother Dawood Ibrahim was in Pakistan and is in good health despite India reports that he was suffering from multiple ailments. Kaskar also mentioned that his brother used to visit Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi.

Thane’s Anti-Extortion Cell led by former encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma had arrested Iqbal Kaskar on September 19.

Kaskar had also informed police officials that he spoke to Dawood Ibrahim for at least four phone calls in the recent past.

Previously, Iqbal also told the investigative agencies that Dawood was scared of calling his people and family members in India as his phone might have been tapped.

According to police, Kaskar had been threatening builders on behalf of his brother Dawood Ibrahim to extort money and some of the builders had already paid huge sums of money to Kaskar.

Encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma led the team of police that picked up Kaskar. Sharma was recently reinstated and posted with the Thane crime branch’s anti extortion cell.
