In another shameful incident, a girl has been allegedly raped by a self-styled baba in Sitapur. A case has been registered into the incident and police has begun the investigation. 

The incident came to light after a complaint filed by the girl. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Baba Siya Ram Das. The self-styled baba has now been brought in for questioning.

Speaking on the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police said that the victim also named two other people in her complaint following which the investigation in the case is underway. 

Incidents of rape in the country has seen a sharp rise in the recent past. Previously, another self-styled godman and chief of Dera Sacha Sauda Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment after he was convicted in two separate rape case of two sadhvis.

Massive violent protests had erupted against the verdict in Ram Rahim’s case as the Dera chief had cult following. His supporters created ruckus and damaged public property after he was pronounced guilty by a special CBI court on August 25. More than 30 people were killed and scores were injured in the protest.

Following his conviction, several reports of Ram Rahim’s unlawful activities including sexual assault had surfaced. Searches were conducted at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters, which is situated in Haryana’s Sirsa as part of police investigation into the crimes of Ram Rahim Singh.

Earlier on September 23, Rajasthan’s self-styled Baba Kaushalendra Prapannacharya ‘Falahari’ Maharaj in Alwar for the alleged rape of a 21-year-old woman.

The woman from Chhattisgarh had alleged that she was raped by the 70-year-old godman at his ashram in Alwar in Rajasthan on August 7. The baba was arrested under Section 376 (rape) and section 506 (criminal intimidation).

According to reports, he was also taken to a government hospital for a medical check and slated to be presented before a magistrate.
