The state election commission in Uttar Pradesh has decided to remove the name of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee from the voter list for Lucknow Municipal Corporation election. Recently, a survey was carried on by the Municpal Cooperation of Lucknow to identify the voters of all the 110 wards in Lucknow, this survey revealed that Atal Behari Vajpayee, who is a voter form Babu Banarsi Das ward does not stay there anymore. Therefore the officials decided to initiate an action to remove the name of the former PM from the voter list.

However, Municipal Corporation officials issued a notice to Atal Behari Vajpayee and asked for a reply, whether he would be exercising his right to vote in the upcoming Municipal elections or not. Atal Behari will have to respond to the notice by October 3 or the the process to remove the name from the voter list will begin.

Vajpayee is currently the oldest living former India Prime Minister. Atal Behari Vajpayee is 92 years old. He suffered a stroke in 2009 which impaired his speech. There have been reports that Atal Behari is often confined to a wheelchair and fails to recognise people. He is also said to be suffering from dementia and long-term diabetes.

Atal Behari stays in Delhi and usually leaves his house only for his regular check-ups at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences. Atal Behari Vajpayee was also the Minister of External Affairs in the cabinet of Morarji Desai. On 25 December 2014 he was given the Bharat Ratna award, India’s highest civilian honour.
