A high-level probe has been ordered into the stampede at Mumbai’s Elphinstone railway station, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said while mentioning that it’s very sad incident. The stampede took place at Elphinstone railway station’s North foot over bridge around 9:30 AM on Friday rush hour where so far at least 22 people have lost their lives and more than 36 have been reported to be severely injured.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that the inquiry will be headed by the Chief Safety Officer, Western Railways. Meanwhile, the Railway Minister and Maharashtra Minister Vinod Tawde have reached KEM Hospital, where the injured have been taken. 

The administration has put out Mumbai stampede helpline numbers which are: Churchgate station – 22039840, Mumbai Central station – 23051665 and Elphinstone Road station – 24301614

The Prime Minister further added that situation in Mumbai is being continuously monitored.
