Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday threatened that he will not allow the construction of bullet train structure until present infrastructure of local railways is made better. He also slammed govt for stampede near Elphinstone station in which 22 people were killed and many others injured.
“Until present infra of local railways is made better, not a single brick will be allowed to be placed for bullet train in Mumbai,” Thackeray said.
Thackeray also lashed out at BJP govt for Friday stampede, which had broken out on a crowded pedestrian bridge connecting two stations in Mumbai. “It is not the first time that it rained in Mumbai. They (Railway) say it happened due to rains?” he asked.
A furious Thackeray said that railways has become biggest enemy of people as more and more people are being killed in train accidents.
“Why do we need terrorists or enemies like Pakistan? it seems our own Railway is enough to kill people,” he remarked.
The MNS chief added they will be handing a list of issues plaguing Mumbai locals on October 5 with a deadline. He said that he will be leading the morcha to Western Railway HQ at Churchgate to ask questions regarding infrastructure.
“List of issues related to Mumbai Local will be given to Railway on 5 Oct with a deadline. If things don’t get better, we will see to it,” Thackeray said. Thackeray also asked govt to throw out illegal hawkers from station bridges.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe had recently laid the foundation stone for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project. The central govt is facing severe heat from Opposition in view of train accidents that have taken place in past few months.
