Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar and two others were sent to judicial custody till October 13 by a court on Sunday when their police custody came to an end. However, the police custody of Pankaj Gangar, nabbed from Mumbai’s Borivali last Thursday, for allegedly financing Iqbal, has been extended till October 5.

Kaskar was earlier arrested in February 2015 on charges of extortion and assault. He had been deported to India from the United Arab Emirates in 2003. Kaskar was wanted in a murder case as well as for his alleged role in the Sara Sahara case where a building came up illegally on government land. However, he was acquitted by a court in both the cases.

Meanwhile, police is also investigating if Dawood Ibrahim has any role to play in the case. The underworld don is ‘wanted’ in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, which had resulted in scores of injuries and deaths. He is believed to be living in Karachi even though Pakistan continues to deny his presence in the country.

Iqbal, a few days ago in a massive revelation had revealed that his brother is in Pakistan. Officials of the investigating teams informed that Iqbal had provided some vital information related to Dawood. Iqbal confirmed that his brother Dawood is in Pakistan. Police officers investigating the case said that Iqbal has provided some vital information related to Dawood and his whereabouts which will help in building a strong case. Iqbal also told the investigative agencies that Dawood is scared of calling his men and family members in India as his phone might have been tapped.

Earlier, police had sought their custody to probe the involvement of absconding mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar in the extortion racket run by his younger brother, Iqbal Kaskar, since 2013.

The Thane police’s Anti-Extortion Cell are also on the lookout for some gunmen from Bihar who had threatened the complainant builder on behalf of Iqbal Kaskar, and for the person who had supplied the weapons to them.
