Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam laid to rest in Rameswaram

RAMESWARAM: Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who passed away on July 27 was laid to rest on today in his hometown Rameswaram with full military honours and amid more than 1 lakh people. 

The mortal remains of the renowned scientist were taken from his ancestral house to the local mosque ahead of the funeral.

Over a lakh people of all age groups gathered at the island town to pay respect to the last rites of Dr. Kalam. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and a several otherr dignitaries, including chief ministers of some states attended the funeral of the ‘Missile Man’.

This morning the streets of the town were packed as Dr Kalam's body was taken from his ancestral home to a mosque in a casket covered with a traditional green shawl, carried by personnel of the three services.
