JAMMU: Following an attack on a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy today morning on a highway in Jammu and Kashmir that killed two soldiers, a terrorist has been caught.
Retaliating to the attack, the BSF returned fire and killed one terrorist who had taken three civilians as hostages. All three are reported to be safe.
The attack took place at an area that is considered to be peaceful as compared to other areas.
The militants were reportedly wearing military uniforms when they attacked the BSF group on the highway near Samruli, about 10 km from Udhampur.
In the continuous firing, one of the terrorists ran into the dense forest close by taking the hostages with him. The police said that the locals helped the forces in catching hold of the terrorist alive.
The incident has increased the tension at the stretch as the highway has often witnessed pilgrims heading to Amarnath and similar attacks in the past.
“An attack on this stretch of the NH after a very long time. Worrying development because area was militant free,” tweeted former state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
