Former journalist Shantanu Saikia arrested for leaking documents from petroleum ministry

NEW DELHI: A day after, the Delhi Police detained five people for leaking classified documents from the Petroleum Ministry, a former journalist Shantanu Saikia has been arrested on Friday.

After overnight questioning, Saikia was arrested who runs an energy portal. Other journalists are also being questioned on the leak of information to energy industries, said sources.

Meanwhile, after former journalist, crime branch arrests one more. Prayas Jain, an Energy Consultant with Medit Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd., which is an Australian Energy firm, has also been arrested in the connection with the leak of the confidential documents from the petroleum ministry. 

According to the sources, top officials of four oil firms are under the scanner and more arrests are expected today. 

As informed by police sources, Essar General Manager has gone missing after the police raided its offices. 

In fact, sources have revealed to NewsX that one staff of a top industrial group is among the five who were arrested on Thursday. After conducting raids at several locations, the crime branch has detained 25 people for questioning including Shailendra Jha, a Reliance Industries staffer.
