On Wednesday morning, an encounter broke out between a few terrorists and security forces in Hajin area of Bandipora District of Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, two terrorists have been gunned down and two jawans have lost their lives. According to sources, following a tip-off, the security forces cordoned off the area and have sealed all the exits of the area. At least 3-4 terrorists are believed be hiding in the area.

Earlier, on October 9, the security forces gunned down the operational head of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Khalid. He was gunned down after a fierce encounter at Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. According to a police official, cordon and search operation was launched by security forces following an input about the presence of terrorists in the area. The search operation converted into a gun battle as militants started to fire towards the search party.

Commenting on the matter, Inspector general of police (Kashmir range) Muneer Khan confirmed the news of Khalid’s killing. He said, “The killed militant is Khalid alias Khalid Bhai, the Jaish chief in Kashmir who was behind all the recent fidayeen attacks.’’ Khalid was on the list of most-wanted names in hit-list of police. Khalid, a Pakistan national was categorised as A++ militant. He is said to be behind the recent suicide attacks in the state.

According to reports, last year, a Kashmiri woman had gone up to a senior Jammu and Kashmir Police officer stating that she wants Khalid dead. Earlier in Baramulla district, after gunning down Khalid, the security forces had cordoned off the area and had initiated search operations to nab the hiding militants.

A 20-year-old woman from Kashmir had asked a senior J&K police officer to kill Khalid, who was heading JeM. The Kashmiri woman had also agreed to help the cops by leading them to his tracks. The woman, who was seeking Khalid’s killing, was found to be JeM head Khalid’s former girlfriend. She also alleged that Khalid was physically involved with many girls from the region.
