Vinod Verma is a member of the Editors’ Guild of India, and is a veteran journalist who has worked with British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hindi and held the post of Digital Editor with Amar Ujala. He was part of a fact-finding team of the Editors Guild that travelled to Chhattisgarh last year to examine cases of intimidation of journalists. Verma was arrested by a joint police team from his residence in Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Police arrested Verma after they received a complaint from Prakash Bajaj, who is believed to be a close aide of a Chhattisgarh minister and also a member of Chhattisgarh BJP’s IT cell.
As per reports, Verma was arrested for possession of a sex CD involving a minister in the BJP government in Chhattisgarh. Police sources also claim that he was blackmailing and extorting the minister. Ghaziabad and Chhattisgarh Police, in a joint operation, arrested the senior journalist from his residence in Indirapuram. Police have booked Vinod under sections 384 and 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police allegedly recovered Rs 2 lakh and more than 500 CDs from his house.
“I have a sex CD of a Chhattisgarh Minister, he is Rajesh Munat and that is why the Chhattisgarh government is not happy with me,” Verma told reporters while being taken to court after hours of questioning. On the other hand, the minister said that the CD is bogus and that the investigation can be handed over to any agency deemed fit.
Last night a team of Chhattisgarh police landed in Delhi and went to a shop where more than thousands of copies of the sex tape were being produced. The shop owner named Vinod Verma as the person who had asked him to make the copies. Chhattisgarh government has reportedly, claimed that Verma was working with Congress to malign BJP’s image. Congress president of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Vaghel, has denied all the charges.
Vaghel has condemned the incident. The Congress president said that the CD that is being talked about is in the possession of many people. He further added that he even has the copy of the porn CD of the BJP politician.
