Land Acquisition Ordinance: Anna Hazare launches protest; to meet Kumar Vishwas, Arvind Kejriwal of AAP to meet Kumar V

NEW DELHI: After slamming the ordinance on Land Acquisition Bill and calling it anti-farmer, veteran social activist Anna Hazare on Monday launched a protest at the Jantar Mantar.

77-year-old anti-corruption crusader is set to meet the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Kumar Vishwas of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today; however, he clarified that he would not allow the AAP leaders to share the stage with him.

Here are the developments:

  • This ordinance is to be unjust to farmers and benefit industrialists. Law said that if land from a farmer is to be taken for industry, then 70% consent needed. Is there democracy in this country? This government removed the consent clause and will acquire land according to their personal whim. What is the diff then between the British rulers and you? They had made the law to loot farmers’ land! But even the British did not do as much as this government, Hazare says slamming the BJP.

  • I have no fear of death, hence fighting such big ‘goondas’, he said.

  • In the previous law, one could challenge the law in court. This government removed that provision. To go to court, you have to seek government's permission! This is dictatorship. We made this government: Anna Hazare

  • Taking a dig at the ‘Achche Din’ election campaign of the Modi government, Hazare stated, “They said "acche din aayenge". Kiske? (For whom) For industrialists! We aren't here to protest against any particular party or individual. We are here to caution government, that we need to work together for this country's future. But you are being unjust.

  • Now the government sees Palwal protest, and says we will make changes in ordinance! Why? Withdraw amendment! Think of what all you can add to the 2013 Land Acquisition Act: Anna Hazare.

  • Anna Hazare: One padyatra has started from Palwal .I request you all to start these padyatras in your villages, because there are very few people aware of this ordinance. We need to educate them! It’s time to create awareness now.

  • We have to work for this on the next 3-4months. After people are enlightened, we will head to Ramlila Maidan! After four months, phir ek baar Ramlila Maidan (once again at Ramlila Maidan), Hazare hints out at another march after few months.

  • I would not fast this time. I have to stay alive for society, says the activist.

  • At Ramlila, it will be a jail bharo aandolan!
