One of Congress’ strongman from Maharashtra, Narayan Rane, who had quit the party and announced his new party — Maharashtra Swabhiman Paksha, claimed that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has invited him to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Earlier, October 1, after announcing his new party, Rane had also said that he would support the BJP by joining NDA.
According to report by PTI, former Congress leader met the CM at his residence, ‘Varsha’ and offered him to joining the NDA. However, Rane stated that he had sought 2 days to come to a decision.
“In my meeting with the chief minister this evening, I was given an offer to become a part of the NDA. I have sought two days’ time to think about the proposal,” Rane said.
Narayan Rane’s resignation came in after he accused the Congress party of reneging its promise of making him Maharashtra’s CM in 2005. During his press conference, Rane also unleashed a direct attack on Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray over his Dusshera press address, where he condemned the BJP party for its ruling and also criticized PM Narendra Modi for demonetisation and his other schemes.
Before Congress, Narayan Rane was a member of Shiv Sena, however he had quit the party in 2005.
Hitting out at Uddhav Thackeray, Narayan Rane said, “Who is Uddhav Thackeray? He targeted Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and me at a rally in Shivaji Park yesterday. What is his contribution to the government? He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demonetisation. Why were his ministers silent then?”
“Most of them sleep through Cabinet meetings. I am asked whether the Shiv Sena will stick with the BJP alliance till full term. I have always maintained that Sena will not leave the government, but will be kicked out,” Rane added.
