This is a first for companies in India. Culture Machine that has about 75 women employees has decided that it will give a ‘First Day of Period Leave’ to all its women employees. In countries like Japan, Italy and South Korea, this menstrual leave policy is a general norm.
Devleena S Majumder, president of human resources, Culture Machine, told Scroll, “First day is obviously a not-so-comfortable day for most. It’s time we face the reality. This is not an embarrassment. This is part of life.”
The company has even gone a step further and sent a petition to the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Women and Child Development to apply this policy across India.
The company adopted this police from July and seems to be urging others to take this step too.
They also released a video with their female employees being informed about this policy and their reactions to it.
