A picture of a 3-year-old tied to artificial ‘peepal’ leaf in Kannur during Lord Krishna birth celebrations has taken the internet by storm. The toddler was dressed up as Lord Krishna for over 2 hours under the scorching sun.

Child Rights Commission which intervened in the issue took ‘suo motu’ case against the parents and Vivekananda Seva Samithi, the organisers of the program. Commission has asked for a detailed report from State Police Chief and Home Secretary regarding the incident.

The incident came to light after Sreekant Usha Prabhakaran, a resident of Payyannur posted a photograph of the child on Facebook.

‘Initially, I thought it was a statue fixed on the artificial leaf, but later I noticed the child waving his hands and shaking his head.’ Sreekanth says in his Facebook post. Adding to the seriousness of the issue, Sreekanth alleges that the child line did not respond positively to his call.

This incident has sparked a row on social media and people are protesting in large number.
