A photo of a policeman folding hands in front of a man riding a motorcycle with four other family members has gone viral on the internet. The photo was clicked in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. The picture was tweeted by Abhishek Goyal, an IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre. According to Indian Express the officer seen folding his hands is B Shubh Kumar of Anantapur’s Madakasira Circle. The tweet has been re-tweeted 3000 times and has more than 5331 likes. IPS officer Abhishek Goyal also wrote on Twitter, “What else can he do? We always have a choice… choose the safe one! #BeSafe.”

The circle inspector, B Shubh Kumar, was headed to work after concluding a 1.5 hour long programme on road safety. The inspector saw a man on a bike with his two sons sitting on the fuel tank, his wife and a relative behind him. The man on the bike was identified as K Hanumantharayudu.

Shockingly none of the riders on the bike was wearing a helmet. According to the Indian Express the accused K Hanumantharayudu is a habitual offender and has received warnings on many occasions.

“My mind went blank when I saw the five of them riding so dangerously and all I could do was fold my hands in total resignation, helplessness and frustration,” Shubh Kumar told Indian Express.

“This is a remote area and traffic awareness among people is very low. We have been conducting such programmes for the past four months by showing videos of road safety, importance of wearing helmets, perils of overloading, how accidents happen etc. We also show interviews of family members who have lost their loved ones in accidents and how their lives have changed. But some people just don’t care. It is frustrating sometimes,” the police official added.
