One of the most vocal leaders of the world, President of United States, Donald Trump was left digitally mum for 11 minutes on Thursday after his Twitter handle was deactivated by a company’s employee. In what could be perceived as good news for all the Trump protestors, a Twitter employee deactivated Donald Trump’s personal account on the last day of work. The name of the employee which is being kept under the wraps by Twitter deactivated @realdonaldtrump account, and it took the company a good 11 minutes to bring it back to the President.
The incident took place shortly before 4 pm Pacific time (11 pm GM). The matter got highlighted, as anyone visiting Donald Trump’s Twitter page would witness “Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!” In a statement released by Twitter, the company said that the account had been inadvertently deactivated due to ‘human error by a Twitter employee’. The released statement further read, “The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored. We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again”.
After the matter was highlighted, Twitter posted a tweet claiming that the Donald Trump’s account was down for 11 minutes and it was because of an employee’s error. However, many reports claimed that the employee did it intentionally on the last working day. The company’s statement further said that through the primary investigation it has been learnt that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee’s last day. “We are conducting a full internal review”, the statement added.
The San Francisco-based company, Twitter, doesn’t generally suspend accounts over complaints until the user posts something abusive or anything that could hamper the emotions of a person, religion etc. However, in the past, Twitter has suspended many high-profile accounts. A few of them include, rightwing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos, after his sustained hate campaign against the actor Leslie Jones , and the rapper Azealia Banks, who spouted racist venom at the pop singer Zayn Malik.
Even though it might have been some struggle for the President of the United States, people seemed to have enjoyed the activity by Twitter’s former employee. Many people even said that the employee should be given a raise.
