While women in India demand their right to faith and call for an end to discrimination at places of worship, the NDA govt has made a spectacular u-turn.
Maneka Gandhi earlier opined that matters of faith should be devoid of state interference. But today the culture minister, Mahesh Sharma, says the NDA cannot endorse or encourage discrimination on the basis of gender. Interestingly the state govt of Kerala, ahead of crucial assembly polls, wholly backs the ban on women in Sabarimala.
While the case is still pending before the Supreme Court, our govt has batted for equality. But the question is, will they walk the talk or is it mere lip service?
